The subject custom gage designed and built by van wert employs a differential measuring technique employing two (2) heidenhain corporation “metro” gage heads with penumatic control. The advantage of differential gaging as opposed to a single gage head is that it eliminates the error in thickness measuring introduced by flatness deviation in both the workpiece and granite reference surface.
The “gage-check” digital display can display actual probe readings, true workpiece thickness and workpiece flatness deviation, plus numerous other options (see metronics manual).

ABTech, Inc. has developed a SettingMaster using a natural granite base and air bearing slide for set up of I.D./O.D. beam type gages such as Federal Products Series 980. The granite basein combination with the air bearing slideensures a stable, and low maintenance gage.
This model has a vertical setting featurewith 6.00 in. travel and 50 microinch resolution. Horizontal travel is 80.00 in.,
measured using a Heidenhain linear scale and DRO for ±0.00024in.accuracy over full travel. The measurement system can store up to16 linear offsets for increased accuracy.
